How are you breathing right now?

The breath is a link between the conscious and unconscious mechanisms of our organism. Breathing happens whether we think about it or not. In bringing attention to our breath we automatically come into presence.


When we first bring our attention to the breath we may notice it changes. At first it isn’t easy to observe the breath without changing its rhythm. But in developing this simple observation we can discover a lot about ourselves. 


The breath can indicate to us where we hold discomfort in our bodies.  Is it uncomfortable to breathe fully into your belly, your chest or your diaphragm?  Can you take a few conscious full breaths starting in your belly, then diaphragm and then chest? How does that feel?  How much space can you give yourself, how much space can you take for yourself? 


In our breath can we fully occupy our space, our bodies and mind.  

The next time you feel sad, excited, angry just notice your breath.  How is it?  Can you spend a little time breathing more fully?  Can you allow yourself to totally feel the arising emotion with complete presence and watch it as it changes? Can you stay present of your breath in the most potent of emotions and watch how it changes?  


When you are with your lover, can you breathe deeply and fully into your intimate embrace?  What happens when you surrender to the breath in this moment?

Yes, we can do pranayama exercises to control and work with the breath, but quite simply - can you be with your breath and learn about yourself as you are right now? Can you realise who you are in any given moment, and from that awareness find the freedom to choose?  Can you settle into your breath and be moved by the intelligence guiding you from within?

Can you discover your own wisdom and breathe with life itself.
